My birthday passed recently, and with the realization that I'm getting older, I've been reflecting on my past and what lessons I've had to encounter. I think we can all agree that life is tough, and it has a way of breaking us down so we can build ourselves back up again.
25 taught me many important lessons, but a few have stuck with me. I hope to carry these with me as I enter 26.
Change can be for the better
Things are meant to change. As someone who doesn't respond well to change, I have always seen it in a negative light. I realize now, the scariest changes I've had to go through have always resulted in positive outcomes. Even if it's with baby steps, make sure to embrace change every once in a while.
Prioritize yourself
The reality of life is no one will care about you but you. If all else fails, and your relationships with other people fall through, it's important to have a strong foundation to fall back on. Prioritize yourself! This can mean saving for the future, caring for your body, etc.
Learn everything you want to
I often think, 'learning this thing is frivolous,' or 'I don't have the time' when learning things I'm interested in. Recently, I learned about tarot cards and how to read them. It has always interested me, but I held back due to certain taboos and beliefs around the practice. Now, I'm glad I learned something I was interested in.
Accept that you cannot change people
This is the most important lesson I learned when I was 25. Unfortunately, it took a long time to come to this realization (along with a big push from the universe). Some things are out of your control. It is up to the other person to change, not you.
Don't compare
There will always be someone doing better than you, just like there will always be someone doing worse. Constantly comparing your progress with those around you won't leave room for you to grow at your own pace. You will always feel like you're doing too little or too much. Focus on your progression, and you will always be moving forward.
