Bride by Ali Hazelwood

First Line:

This was of ours, the one between the vampyres and the weres, began several centuries ago with brutal escalations of violence, culminated amid flowing torrents of varicolored blood, and ended in a whimper of buttercream cake on the day I met my husband for the first time.

Summary:

Misery is used to being collateral. Raised by Humans for most of her childhood, she has chosen to live among them until a message from her father brings her back to Vampyre territory. Her next task? Marry the Were Alpha to uphold a peacekeeping alliance.

Lowe Moreland, newly appointed to Were Alpha, rules his pack with both authority and justice. He soon finds his wife is more than she appears, and he must hide a secret even as they begin to grow closer.

My Review: NO SPOILERS

Book of the YEAR

I needed to read this book and didn’t even know it. Instantly my favorite book of the year.

There’s something about the angst and pining that I MISSED from romance books and I was eating it up! Telling my best friend all the updates! Kicking my feet! And the story was very interesting! I cannot geek enough about how much I loved this book so I’ll just say WOW!

Also, can we bring back pining in books? I've read an ungodly amount of books that have more sm*t than story, and this was so refreshing (for me personally, don't come for me). I adore Lowe's respect for Misery, and Misery's attempts at recognizing her feelings even though it's not part of her 'code.' Their banter was fun and entertaining the whole way through.

My Favorite Quote(s):

"Mine." It's a rumble in his throat. "You smell like you're mine, Misery."

I want him–I want this with him–so much, so forcefully, it's equal parts terrifying and soaring.
