Hosting a Poetry Prompt Challenge: Takeaways

April was poetry month! I am sad to see it go so soon, but there were some AMAZING takeaways that I took from the month of April, including my Poetry Prompt Challenge!

If you're not familiar with poetry or things happening in the poetry community, you may not be familiar with NaPoWriMo. NaPoWriMo stands for National Poetry Writing Month, in accordance with April being the month of poetry, and it's a time when poets will try to write a new poetry piece every day in April. This year I decided to participate in the widespread event while also hosting my own poetry prompt challenge (pictured below).

I was a little surprised at my ability to come up with such thought-provoking prompts, and it was a great challenge for me to come up with fresh ideas that others could pull and create from! Due to this challenge, I have actually started developing a habit of titling my pieces by coming up with unique prompts. This challenge also allowed me to read some amazing pieces by my friends on social media.

Will I be doing this again in the future? Definitely! I think that there's something about having people coming together and writing something based on your words that brought me a lot of joy. The poetry community is so visceral and vulnerable, it is hard not to make friends <3
