How to Stay Inspired: Feeding Your Creative Muse

Inspiration goes as quickly as it comes. For those who struggle to stay inspired, this game of tug-of-war never truly ends. Thankfully, you are not alone in your fight to stay inspired. This goes for anyone who struggles with ideas, not only writers.

When fears and doubt get in the way of your inspiration, these are some methods you can use to feed your creative muse and continue to delve into future projects.

Connect With Nature

You hear this often when researching ways to boost your mental health and overall well-being. This concept applies here, too! Nature is all around us, but that does not mean we are actively connecting with it.

Take a chance to go outside. I don't believe that this means you have to be in a place where nature surrounds you, like a park or an open field. As long as you have fresh air, and are outside where nature is present. If you can, take the time to jot down anything that comes to mind while you're there!

Visit New Places

Although inspiration is manifested through familiarity, undergoing different circumstances can harbor new ideas. New experiences may be what you need to feed your creative muse.

Sometimes we don't think our routine is monotonous until we stray from routine and find creativity in new places.

Consume Creative Material

I've purposefully kept this one vague. Creative material can be found in many shapes and sizes, so personal preference is important. Here are some forms of media you can draw inspiration from:

  1. Music

  2. Books

  3. Meditation

  4. Foods / Drinks

  5. Paintings

  6. Relationships

  7. Podcasts

Many resources can be found online, and for whatever kind of muse

Take Time Off

The good old relaxation method has never proved me wrong before. Instead of trying elaborate ways to boost your inspiration, stepping back and giving your mind a break can be in your best interest.

When I say to take a breather, I don't mean somewhere quiet to think. Taking time off means completely taking your mind off a certain project and returning with a clean slate.

Learn Something New

This goes hand-in-hand with gaining new inspiration from new places. Take a shot at learning something new, even if it has nothing to do with your craft. The important thing to take from this is gaining a new perspective.

If you're stuck in the same mindset, gaining inspiration will be more difficult. Learn something new, and apply what you learned to different aspects of your life.

These methods will help you to feed your muse and gain inspiration for all your future and current projects. Happy Saturday!
