Monthly Book Roundup: May 2024

Updated: Jul 28

Hello lovely readers! I hope you are all doing well, and having a more successful reading year! This month has thrown different challenges at me left and right, so I haven't read as much as usual. That said, I'm looking forward to improving next month!

Here are the books I've read this month, including my reviews (spoiler-free)!

  • A Soul to Heal (Book 2 of 6) by Opal Reyne (⭐⭐)

  • Hooked (Book 1 of 6) by Emily McIntire (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

A Soul to Heal (Book 2 of 6) by Opal Reyne (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐⭐️)

Book Summary: Delora just wanted to free herself and is now in the Veil. She doesn't mind it. She accepts her imminent demise, but the Veil has other plans.

All he wanted was a name and a human to call his own. When one falls into his lap, he is dumbfounded and gets right to work healing her from her injuries. He doesn't quite understand humanity, but he does understand her injuries are not just physical.

His goal is to gain her affection, and hers is to leave the world and all the pain behind. Can he convince her to stay, despite his lack of humanity?

My Review: I fondly remember reading 'A Soul to Keep,' so I've finally found the time to dive back into the Veil. I'm so ready to be back in the Duskwalker universe!

I adored how this book delved into mental health and the healing process. I see mental health as a topic misrepresented in books, but this series does it justice. I enjoyed reading about Delora's healing process, and how her Duskwalker learned to care for her even when he did it wrong a few times.

I can't say too much without giving spoilers but it was also nice to see Orpheus and Reia make some small appearances! I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series! So well done <3

Hooked (Book 1 of 6) by Emily McIntire (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️)

Book Summary: What happens when the villain wins their happy ending?

James has an agenda, to take down his worst enemy Peter Michaels. When Peter’s daughter, Wendy, shows up at his bar, he finds the opportunity too good to pass up. Seduce the daughter of his enemy, then break him

Wendy has been sheltered by her father all her life, and the need to please him overcame her wants. When she meets the mysterious Hook at his bar, an instant connection sets her on fire.

But when she finds out more about his work and the dark intentions behind it, will she stay?

My Review: This fractured retelling of Captain Hook and Wendy had me just as the title states, hooked.

The first Never After I read was Scarred, and I enjoyed that book way more than I thought I would. Recently this series came back to mind as I kept seeing it on social media, and everyone was talking about this book specifically.

Now, I have another fictional man I want to pull from the pages and make real. The way that James speaks and flirts? I was blushing and kicking my feet in bed while reading this. There’s something about the bad boy x good girl trope that always hits the right spot.

I loved the language in this book! There were some amazing quotes, and the pacing was just right. I loved this book and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

These are all the books I've read in May! Hopefully, you all have a successful year of reading, and can check out some of these books <3

Happy Saturday!
