Poetry Prompts to Cure Writer's Block

Updated: Nov 8, 2022

Poetry has become a daily part of my routine, more than almost anything else, and yet every time I scour the internet for fresh ideas, I find the same types of prompts. Either the prompts are too vague, too specific, or too silly. So, I made a list of my own. These are all small sentences you can use as a title or a sentence within the poem and are meant to provoke deeper thought.

  1. My heart remembers more than my brain does

  2. Desire vs. fear

  3. Five ways to heal

  4. Finding love within the mundane

  5. Trading breath

  6. Spring's blooming irises

  7. You may not remember me

  8. Silent conversations

  9. Taking a leap of faith

  10. Watching __ crumble away

I hope that these prompts get the gears turning. Happy writing!
